Who can use this feature
Available on any team or plan
Anyone with a Figma account can accept invitations

Join files or projects
Collaborators can invite you to individual files or projects. This will allow you to access only the files in that specific project.
Your invitation will confirm if you have been invited to view or edit the file. Learn more about permissions in teams →
Existing collaborators can invite you to a file or project if they have your email address. Figma will send you an email when you're invited to a specific file or project.
Use the Open in Figma button to accept the invitation and open the file.
Notification
If you already have a Figma account, you can see any invitations in your account notifications.
- Click Accept to join the team.
- Click Decline to ignore the invitation.
Tip: You can leave the invitation as is, and come back to accept it at any time.

Links
Files and prototypes support link sharing settings. This allows you to configure default permissions for anyone who access the file via a link or embed.
This allows you to quickly share links or embed files and prototypes in external websites without having to manage access for collaborators individually.
If the file's link sharing settings is set to Anyone with the link, you can join the file simply by opening the link. Whether you can edit the file will depend on the file's link sharing permissions.
Access files
You can interact with files based on your permissions. If you were invited with can view access, you can only view the file. If you were invited with can edit access, you can get edit access to the file. Permissions in teams →
If it's your first interaction with that team, project, or file, you'll have view access by default. If you're able to gain edit access, you'll see an Edit file button in the toolbar.
- Click the Edit file button in the toolbar. If you hover over this button, Figma will display the link sharing permissions for the file.
- Figma will allow you to edit that file.
Can view access
You can tell if you have view access if you see Ask to edit on the toolbar.
If you have view-only access to a file, there are only some actions you can perform:
- View and interact with prototypes and presentations
- View Figma Design and FigJam files
- Use emotes and cursor chat in FigJam files
- Add, reply to, and resolve comments
- Follow other collaborators in files
- Access the version history of a file
- Save a copy of files to your computer (as .fig or .jam files) or duplicate the file
- View layer properties in the right sidebar [Figma Design]
- Measure distances between layers in design files [Figma Design]
- Copy text, frames, components, objects or layers within files*
- Export frames and layers from design files [Figma Design]*

Can edit access
If you were invited to the file with can edit access, you may be able to edit the file using the tools available in the toolbar. For example, in Figma Design, you'll see shape, object editing, text tools, and more:
Join teams
Teams are where groups of people can create resources and collaborate on files and projects.
The only way to join an existing team is to have someone invite you to the team. If someone has invited you to a team with Can edit access, you'll need to accept an invitation before you can edit any team files.
Caution: If you've been invited to a team with can edit access, you'll need to accept the invitation to edit files. If you just join the team via a file or link, you will only be able to view team resources.
Existing collaborators can invite you to a team if they have your email address. Figma will send you an email whenever someone invites you to a team.
Use the Accept invite button in the email to accept the invitation.
Caution: While invitations are sent to your email address, they are not explicitly linked to a Figma account. Make sure you are logged into the correct account when accepting a team invitation.
Notification
If you already have a Figma account, you can see any invitations in your account notifications.
- Click Accept to join the team.
- Click Decline to ignore the invitation.
Tip: You can leave the invitation as is, and come back to accept it at any time.

Link
Team join links allow existing team members to share a link with perspective team members. This allows you to bring in collaborators, even if you don't have their email address.
If you're part of an organization, you won't be able to join teams in the organization using a link.
If it's a work-related team outside of the organization, you can still join using your company email and account.
- Click the link to redeem the invitation.
- If you're logged into more than one account, choose which account to join the team with.
- Figma will add you to the team.
Note: Team admins can reset any team join links. If you're unable to join the team via a link, then the link may have been reset. We recommend reaching out to the person who invited you to confirm the correct link, or invite you directly.
Explore teams
Access any teams you join from the file browser of your Figma account.
Figma will list all teams you are a member of in the left sidebar. Click on a team name to open the team.
The team page is divided into two main sections: your team files and projects, and some information about your team.
Files and projects
In the main body of the team page, you can browse the files and projects in that team. Figma will show you a preview of any recently edited files and projects.
- Click on the project name to view all files in the project page
- View a description of the project.
- Add and remove projects from your favorites.
- See the number of files within the project.
- Click on a file preview to open that file.
Team information
On the right side of the team page, you can view some information about your team:
- View the team name and icon.
- See a description of the team.
- View a list of members in your team. Figma will show the most active members first.

Join organizations
There are a few ways to join an organization. In this article, we'll only cover how to accept invitations.

Accept an invite to a file, project, or team to join the organization. You'll need a Figma account to join the organization.
If you have a company email, you can join the organization as a member. This lets you view any teams in the organization and access shared resources, like fonts and libraries.
If you work for an agency or are an external contractor, you may only have an external email address. If you join an organization with a personal or external email, you can only join as a guest.

Figma will send you an email whenever someone invites you to an organization team, project, file, or the organization itself.
Use the buttons or links in the email to accept or decline the invitation.
