Who can use this feature

  • Anyone with can edit access can lock and unlock objects.
  • This article is about FigJam. Learn about locking in Figma.

Any objects placed on your FigJam board, including grouped objects, can be locked. Lock objects and sections to prevent them from being moved or edited.

For example, if you've finalized a user journey diagram with your team, lock the relevant objects to keep yourself or others from modifying them.

Lock objects

Locking an object prevents it from being moved or edited. It also prevents connections from being created or attached to the object. You can only select, unlock, or duplicate locked objects. Locking stickies and shapes also disables quick create shortcuts from them.

  1. Select an object, or press ⇧ Shift and click to select multiple objects.
  2. Right-click an object and select Lock/Unlock.

You can also use the keyboard shortcut:

  • Mac: ⌘ Command ⇧ Shift L
  • Windows: Control Shift L

Once an object is locked, its toolbar disappears and is replaced by a closed lock.

Lock sections

Lock sections to prevent them and their contents from being moved or edited.

  1. Create or select a section.
  2. Click in the section's menu.
  3. Select whether you want to:
    • Lock all to prevent the section and its contents from being moved or edited
    • Lock background only to prevent the section from being moved or deleted while its content is still editable

Unlock objects and sections

There are a few ways to unlock an object:

  • Right-click and select Lock/Unlock
  • Select the object and use keyboard shortcut
    • Mac: ⌘ Command ⇧ Shift L
    • Windows: Control Shift L
  • Select the object and click the closed lock icon, confirm unlock

Bulk unlock

To unlock select objects in bulk:

  1. Hold Shift and click the locked objects.
  2. Click the closed lock icon to unlock your objects.

Note

Bulk selection does not include locked objects.
