Who can use this feature

Supported on any plan.

Team admins, owners, and anyone with can edit access or Admins can adjust file and project permissions.

Only admins can adjust people's access to a team or organization.

In this article, we'll cover how to remove or adjust people's access to individual files or projects. If you want to remove someone from a team or organization, follow the guides below:

  • Remove access to teams →
  • Remove organization members and guests →

Tip: For more information on access and permissions, read our Guide to sharing and permissions →

Projects

Adjust or remove permissions

If you've invited someone to a project, they will have explicit permissions on that project. You can adjust their permissions to upgrade, downgrade, or remove their access to files in that project.

Note: If someone has access to the team, removing them from the project will only remove their explicit access to the project. They can still access and interact with the project based on their team permissions.

Starter or Education

  1. Click the Share button in the top-right corner.
  2. Click the member's current permissions
    • Select Can view to remove their edit access. They can still view and comment on any files and prototypes.
    • Select Can edit to grant them edit access to any files in this project.
    • Select Remove to remove their access to the project.

Professional, Organization, or Enterprise

In Professional, Organization, or Enterprise teams, a person's permissions on a project determine their maximum access to the files in that project.

A person's seat type determines which Figma products they can access.

For example: Jenny works at an agency and is helping the team build out their design system. The team owner gave Jenny edit access to the Design system project and a Collab seat. Even though she has edit access to the project, she can only edit the FigJam and Figma Slides files in that project.

  1. Click the Share button in the top-right corner.
  2. Click the member's current permissions
    • Select Can view to remove their edit access. They can still view and comment on any files and prototypes.
    • Select Can edit to grant them edit access to any files in this project. Whether they can edit files in this project will depend on their seat type in Figma Design or FigJam.
    • Select Remove to remove their access to the project.
  3. Team or organization admins can adjust the person's seat:
    • Manage team members and permissions →
    • Manage organization members and guests →

Adjust team access

Professional, Organization, and Enterprise teams can also adjust the team's access to the project.

This allows people to restrict access to specific project, as well as give members permissions on a project that differ from their team permissions.

To adjust or remove team access for a project:

  1. Open the project in the file browser.
  2. Click the Share button in the top-right corner.
  3. Select the team you wish to modify access for. A modal displays a list of team members and their current level of access.
  4. Click Change access.
  5. Select one of the following:
    • Same as the team: Team members can access the project based on their team-level permissions. For example, if a user has can view team permissions, and the team access level for the project is set to can access, then the user has can view access on the project.
    • View-only: Only the project creator or owner can edit a view-only project. Team members can only view files in this project, even if they have can edit permissions on the team.
    • Disable: Team members will no longer be able to access the project. You’ll need to invite them back to the project with can view or can edit access.

Files

Note: If someone has access to the team, removing them from the file will only remove their explicit access on that file. They can still access and interact with the file based on their team permissions.

Manage access to files and prototypes from the file's share modal.

Open the share modal from a file

Adjust or remove access
