Request to edit a file Approve or deny a request

Who can use this feature

Available on any team or plan.

Anyone with can view access to a file in a team can request to edit it

Whether you're looking to make quick edits or you're joining as a main collaborator in a Figma Design or FigJam file, you'll need can edit access to make changes.

If you only have can view access to a file, you can request to edit the file in Figma and the owner will be notified of your request. The file owner and those with can edit access can view and approve your request to edit. This eliminates the need to track down people to give you access, making it a more efficient and less disruptive process.

Request to edit a file

If you open a file within a team where you have can view permissions, you can ask to edit the file by clicking Ask to edit in the toolbar.

Figma will notify the file owner via email and in-app notifications of your request and be given the option to grant you access.

If your request is approved, you'll receive an email and in-app notification, and can start editing the file right away.

Note: If your seat type does not provide access to the Figma product you're viewing, you'll need to make a seat request. Only admins can approve or deny seat upgrade requests.

Approve or deny a request

Anyone with can edit or owner access to a file in a team can deny or approve edit requests.

If there are pending requests in a file, a red badge will appear on the share button in the toolbar. Share Notification.png

Click the share button to view the requests. The share modal will open, and you'll have the option to deny or approve the requests.
