Overview

We've made the following changes to our pricing, seats, and billing experience. These changes start taking effect on March 11, 2025, and include:

  • Increased pricing for Figma Design—see section below for details.
  • More functionality with every seat—all paid seats include access to FigJam and Figma Slides, making it easier for everyone to collaborate.
  • Re-architecture of our billing model—we've moved away from user-driven upgrades and given admins upfront approval over seat upgrades by default. Approved seats are added to your next invoice and prorated from the day of approval.

Increased pricing for Figma Design

Starting from your next subscription renewal on or after March 11, 2025, the price of Figma Design will increase:

Table displaying the cost of Figma’s Full, Dev, Collab, and View seats across the Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans.

Our free Starter plan will continue to be available. Prices reflected above are in USD. If you pay for Figma today using a different currency, you can view the updated pricing in that currency in the FAQ section below.

When does the new pricing go into effect?

New pricing goes into effect at your first subscription renewal on or after March 11, 2025, unless otherwise stated in your Admin settings.

For example, if you are on an annual subscription that renews on October 15, 2025, the new pricing will go into effect on that date.

How can I find out when my plan is due to renew?

You can find out when your annual subscription started or renewed by following the steps below:

  1. From the file browser, click Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. Click Billing.
  3. Review the banner at the top of the page which includes the date that pricing will increase for your plan.

Are Figma AI tools included in the new pricing?

Figma’s AI features are currently free while in beta, but usage limits may apply. They will become paid when they are generally available, and we’ll update you before that happens.

What are connected projects?

We’ve heard from many of our users in the freelancer and agency communities that our plans don’t support your needs. As a follow-up to our billing model changes, we’ll be releasing a new feature in 2025 that allows for connected projects between Figma plans. Within a connected project, you and your clients will be able to seamlessly create and co-edit files using your existing Figma seats, resolving the need for multiple licenses.

More functionality with every seat

Previously, each user needed a seat for each Figma product they used.

Beginning March 11, 2025, each user has a single seat that gives them access to more functionality. This means admins only need to manage one seat per user.

New seat What's included

Full

  • Full access to all Figma products, including Figma Design, Dev Mode, Figma Slides, and FigJam.

Dev

  • Full access to Dev Mode, Figma Slides, and FigJam.
  • View and comment access in Figma Design files.

Collab

  • Full access to Figma Slides and FigJam.
  • View and comment access in Figma Design files.
  • No access to Dev Mode; basic inspection only.

View

  • View and comment access to Figma Design, Figma Slides, and FigJam.
  •  No access to Dev Mode; basic inspection only.

Pre-March 11, 2025

Figma’s current seat management system. Each user in the table has three seats to manage: one for Figma Design, one for Dev Mode, and one for FigJam.

For each Figma product, you assigned a seat type that determined the types of actions a user can take: Full, Viewer, or Viewer-restricted.

For example: Jules is a designer in your organization who needs edit access to Figma Design and FigJam. You purchase two paid seats for Jules—one for each product.

Post-March 11, 2025

Figma’s future seat management system. Each user in the table only has one seat type to manage.

You assign a single seat per person. The seat gives access to multiple Figma products.

For example: since Jules needs edit access to Figma Design and FigJam, you purchase one Full seat. This seat gives them edit access to both products, as well as Figma Slides and Dev Mode.

When did the new seat types go into effect?

The new seat structure rolled out to all plans on—or soon after—March 11, 2025. Your bill will not be affected until your next renewal on or after March 11, 2025.

How were seats migrated to the new model?

Figma migrated your current seats to the new seats. You have the opportunity to make adjustments prior to your next renewal on or after March 11, 2025.

Pre-March 11, 2025 Post-March 11, 2025
Paid Figma Design seat Full seat
Paid Dev Mode seat Dev seat
Paid FigJam seat Collab seat
Free viewer or viewer-restricted seat in all products View seat

If a user previously had more than one paid seat, they’ve been switched to the new multi-product seat that gives them the same functionality. For example:

  • David had a Figma Design seat and a FigJam seat. They've migrated to a Full seat to preserve their access to both products.
  • Tori had a Dev Mode seat and a FigJam seat. They’ve migrated to the Dev seat to preserve their access to both products.

Why am I seeing available Collab seats on my plan after the migration to new seat types?

When users migrated to Figma’s new seats, we ensured that their product access remained consistent.

Previously, a person needed two seats to access both Figma Design and FigJam. Now, they only need one Full seat, because a Full seat includes access to both products. Their FigJam seat is also migrated to a Collab seat, but is left unassigned and available for someone else to use.

This means you'll maintain the same number of seats in your account before and after the migration.

Example:

Acme Inc. has two designers, Jules and Jesse. Prior to the new seat types changes, they had three seats in their account:

  • Jules had a paid Design seat.
  • Jesse had both a paid Design seat and a paid FigJam seat.

After the migration, Jules and Jesse each have a Full seat. Jesse keeps access to both Figma Design and FigJam with their new Full seat, and Jules gains access to FigJam as well. Acme Inc. also gets an unassigned Collab seat, keeping three total seats in their account.

You have control over what happens to these available Collab seats. You can decide whether to:

  • Use them and assign them to users as needed.
  • Remove them at your next plan renewal.

Note: If you’re on the Organization or Enterprise plan, and have added FigJam seats that you haven’t yet paid for via a true-up, an unassigned Collab seat will not be added.

What if I use SCIM to manage seats?

If you’re on the Enterprise plan and manage seats via SCIM, your account manager will be in touch to help you with the transition. If you don’t have an account manager, reach out to Figma Support for assistance.

Dev seats on the Professional plan

Beginning March 11, 2025, the Professional plan now has a separate Dev seat which includes access to Dev Mode, FigJam, and Figma Slides. (Previously, a Figma Design seat was required for access to Dev Mode).

Once you’re within 30 days of your subscription renewal, you’ll be able to make seat adjustments for your subscription renewal from your Billing page.

We recommend making seat changes and switching users to Dev seats at your first renewal on or after March 11, 2025. This ensures you’ll be invoiced for your desired number of each seat type at renewal.

If you need to make any seat changes outside of your renewal period, you can do so at any time from the People page of your admin.

Learn more about how seat changes work.

Seat upgrade and approval flows

Previously, seat upgrades were driven by user actions, with admins reviewing the changes afterwards.

Now, new seat approval settings give admins upfront control when a new seat is requested.

For each seat type, admins can choose from the following seat approval settings:

  • Manually approve seats: All seat upgrade requests must be manually approved by an admin.
  • Manually approve, unless seat is available (default): People who request a paid seat are automatically granted one if it is available. A seat is available if it has been purchased in advance, but no one is assigned to it.
  • Auto-approve seats: All seat upgrade requests are automatically granted. If there are no seats available, a new seat will be purchased.

To ensure users aren’t blocked from collaborating while admins review their seat request, they’ll be able to use the functionality of the seat they requested temporarily for up to three days. During that time, they can create new files and edit any files where their teammates have given them edit access. They will not be able to edit files they do not have edit access to. The temporary access ends immediately if the request is denied or expires.

Example

Julian and Jesse work for Acme Inc.

Julian, who has a Full seat, wants to collaborate with Jesse, who has a View seat, on a design file. To edit this file, Jesse needs both edit permissions on the file and a Full seat.

Julian invites Jesse to the file with can edit access, and Jesse requests a Full seat.

  • If Acme has auto-approve settings enabled, Jesse will automatically be assigned a Full seat and can begin editing the file.
  • If Acme's settings require them to manually approve the request, Jesse will get temporary access to a Full seat for 3 days while an admin reviews their request. During those 3 days:
    • Jesse can create new files
    • Jesse can edit files where he has been given can edit access

When do the new seat upgrade and approval settings go into effect?

The new seat upgrade and approval settings roll out to all Figma customers on—or shortly after—March 11, 2025. This will not affect how you are billed until your next renewal on or after March 11, 2025.

What does it mean for a seat to be ‘available’?

The new default seat approval setting is Manually approve, unless seat is available.

A seat is available if it has been purchased in advance, but no one is currently assigned to it. For example:

  • When someone leaves your team or organization, their seat will become available for someone else to use.
  • If an admin moves someone to a free View seat, their current seat becomes available.
  • If you’ve pre-purchased seats at the beginning of a subscription term, but no one is using them yet.

What is the default approval setting?

The default seat approval setting is: Manually approve, unless seat is available.

Admins have the ability to adjust approval settings to be more restrictive or flexible by seat type based on their needs.

How do seat approval settings work for customers on an ELA?

For customers on an ELA (Enterprise License Agreement), requests for all paid seats default to the Auto-approve seats setting.

The setting Manually approve, unless seat is available is disabled, since this option doesn’t apply on an ELA.

What happened to the default seat type setting?

Previously, admins had the ability to set a default seat type, which would apply to new users joining the team or organization.

We've removed the need for default seat types. Now, new users automatically join with a free View seat and admins will have upfront approval over seat upgrades that incur cost, by default.

Prorated billing

We are also moving to a licensing model where approved seats will be added to your next invoice, prorated from the day of approval through the end of your subscription period.

These changes will go into effect at your first subscription renewal on or after March 11, 2025.

How upgrades and prorated billing work on the Professional plan with monthly billing

Once a seat is approved, it will be automatically added to your next invoice. The cost of the seat will be prorated based on the day it was approved until the end of your subscription term.

Example

Jenny requests a Full seat 3 days before the next monthly invoice and an admin approves it.

In this scenario, the invoice will include:

  • A charge for $1.50, which is the prorated cost of 3 days worth of Full seat usage on the Professional plan on monthly billing. This charge is added because an admin approved Jenny’s seat.
  • A charge for $15, which is the next month’s usage for Jenny’s seat.
  • Charges for next month’s usage for any other seats on the team.

How upgrades and prorated billing work on the Professional plan with annual billing

If you add new paid seats to your team during an annual subscription, Figma charges you a separate monthly subscription for those seats.

  • When you begin or renew an annual subscription, you purchase a set number of paid seats for the year.
  • When you add extra paid seats throughout your annual subscription term, we’ll charge you a monthly subscription for just those seats. This helps you manage the cost of Figma if you have a portion of users who only need to pay for Figma for a short time.

Once a seat is approved, it will be automatically added to your next monthly invoice. The cost of the seat will be prorated based on the day it was approved until the end of your current monthly billing term.

You will continue to get monthly invoices for newly added seats unless you proactively add those seats to your annual subscription or remove the seats.

Example

Acme Inc. has an annual subscription with 10 Full seats. These annual seats use annual pricing.

Jenny joins Acme Inc. on April 27 and an admin approves a Full seat for her. All existing annual seats are already in use, so Acme needs to purchase another seat.

In this scenario, Acme will get an invoice on May 1. The invoice will include:

  • A charge for $1.50, which is the prorated cost of 3 days worth of Full seat usage on the Professional plan on monthly billing. This charge is added because an admin approved Jenny’s seat.
  • A charge for $15, which is the next month’s usage for Jenny’s seat.

Acme will continue to get monthly invoices for Jenny’s Full seat unless an admin proactively adds the monthly seat to their annual subscription.

How upgrades and prorated billing work on the Organization and Enterprise plans

On the Organization or Enterprise plans, prorated billing means a transition away from the existing true-up model.

Legacy

The Organization and Enterprise plans have an annual subscription with true-ups every three months. True-ups account for any paid seats added or removed during the quarter.

With true-ups, admins can review seats and remove them before the next invoice to avoid being charged.

This mechanism existed as a way to control for user-driven seat upgrades that hadn’t been approved by an admin, but required more time to review.

Updated

Now that admins have upfront approval over seat upgrades by default, approved seats are included in your next invoice with prorated pricing, based on the date they were approved until the end of the annual subscription term.

You’ll still get quarterly invoices every three months, but there won't be user-driven upgrades to review during that period.

Example

Twigma Inc. has an Organization subscription with 20 Full seats. Their subscription renews on January 1, and they receive quarterly invoices on April 1, July 1, October 1, and January 1.

Benny joins Twigma on September 15 and an admin approves a Full seat for them. In this scenario, Twigma will get their quarterly invoice on October 1. The invoice will include:

  • A charge for $195.29, which is the prorated cost of 108 days worth of Design seat usage on the Organization plan. 108 days covers the cost of Benny’s seat from September 15 through the remainder of the annual Organization subscription term.

When will my final true-up be?

Your last true-up will be three months before your first renewal on or after March 11, 2025. For example, if your subscription renews on October 1, 2025, your last true-up will be July 1, 2025.

I don’t know my plan

Admins with control over billing can see their plan from admin settings.

  1. From the file browser, click Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. Select the Billing tab.
  3. Your plan is labelled at the top right of the Billing page.

If you don’t have access to Admin—or can’t see the above information in the Billing tab in Admin—you can check which plan you're on from the file browser:

  • If you see All projects as an item in your sidebar, you’re on the Starter or Professional plan.
  • If you see All teams, you’re on the Organization or Enterprise plans.
    • If you see All teams and All workspaces, you're on the Enterprise plan.

If you’re part of multiple plans, you can also click the plan switcher in the file browser to see which plan each team or organization is on.

What to expect between March 11 and your next renewal

On March 11, 2025

  • The new seats and new admin controls will roll out over the course of a few days, starting on March 11, 2025. Your bill will not be affected until your next renewal on or after that date.
  • Your seats are migrated to the new seat types.
  • You can use the new admin controls to decide how you would like seat upgrades in your plan to work moving forward.

At your first renewal on or after March 11, 2025

  • The new pricing and prorated billing will go into effect on your first renewal on or after March 11. For example, if you are on annual billing that renews in October 2025, that’s when you’ll see these changes in your plan.
Example: Organization or Enterprise plan

March 11, 2025

  • Figma migrates your users to new seat types (Full, Dev, Collab, and View).
  • You start using new seat approval settings.

New seats approved between March 11 and your renewal

  • Any seats that are approved between March 11 and your next renewal date will be added to your next true-up, or quarterly invoice.
  • For each true-up, you review the number of paid seats in your account, downgrade anyone who shouldn’t have a paid seat, and lock in your invoice.
  • You are charged for the number of seats you lock in on the invoice, prorated from the invoice date through the end of your subscription term.

At your next renewal

  • On your renewal date, you renew annual seats for another year at the updated prices.
  • Any seats that are added after your renewal date are added to your next quarterly invoice, prorated from the day of approval to the end of the subscription term.
Example: Professional plan with annual billing

March 11, 2025

  • Figma migrates your users to new seat types (Full, Dev, Collab, and View).
  • You start using new seat approval settings.

New seats approved between March 11 and your renewal

  • Seats added after March 11 that exceed the number of annual seats you have will be charged on a monthly basis until your next renewal date.
  • You are charged for new monthly seats starting at your next monthly invoice.
  • You can convert monthly seats into annual seats at any time.

At your next renewal

  • On your renewal date, you renew annual seats for another year at the updated prices.
  • Any seats that are added after your renewal date are added on a monthly subscription, prorated from the day of approval.
  • You can convert monthly seats to annual seats at any time.
