Before you Start

Who can use this feature

Available on all plans.

Anyone with can edit access to the project and its parent team can delete, restore, or permanently delete the project.

You can access the Trash section from the sidebar of the file browser.

From here, you can choose to permanently delete the project, or restore the project if you have changed your mind.

Figma will keep projects in the trash section until you, or another team member with access to the projects, permanently deletes them.

Move a project to the trash

Who can move projects to the trash

Anyone with can edit access to the project and its parent team.

Warning: Moving a project to the trash will remove the project and all of its files for all collaborators, not just yourself.

You can move a project to trash from the team page or the project page.

From the team page

Navigate to the team where the project lives.
Right-click on the project > Settings > Move to trash.
Confirm by clicking Move project and # files to trash.

From the project page

Navigate to the project.
Click the arrow next to the project name > Settings > Move to trash.
Confirm by clicking Move project and # files to trash.

View and manage projects in the trash

The trash is an archive of removed files and projects that you have access to.

You can access the Trash from the sidebar of the file browser. If you are a member of multiple teams or organizations, you’ll have a trash section for each team or organization.

Within the trash are two tabs:

Files: Contains individual files to which you have access that were moved to trash. Learn about files in the trash.
Projects: Contains projects to which you have access—including any files within the project—that were moved to trash, even if it was moved there by someone else.

You can sort projects in the trash by date, name, and by actions you may take on the project. It's not possible to open a project in the trash, but you can restore it.

Note: If a file was moved to trash before its folder, then the file can be found in the Files tab of your Trash section.

Restore projects from the trash

Who can restore projects from trash

There are a few requirements you must meet to be able to restore a project:

You have can edit access to the project
You have can edit access to the project’s team
The project’s original team still exists

This will restore the project and all files belonging to the project for anyone who had access to it at the time it was moved to trash. Files that were moved to trash before the folder got moved to the trash will remain in the Files tab of the Trash section.

To restore a project:

From the file browser, click Trash in the sidebar.
Click the Projects tab and locate the project you want to restore.
Right-click on the project and select Restore.

Permanently delete projects

Who can permanently delete projects

Anyone with can edit access to a project and its team can permanently delete the project.

Warning: Permanently deleting a project will get rid of the project forever for everyone who has access to it. This action cannot be reversed.

If you want to get rid of the file completely, you can Permanently delete it. This will delete the file and prevent anyone from accessing it again.

To permanently delete a project:

Open the file browser and click Trash in the sidebar.
Click the Projects tab and locate the project.
Right-click on the project and select Permanently delete.
Click Delete Project to confirm the action.

Note: Figma may temporarily retain data after a file has been deleted forever in connection with Figma's standard processes for data deletion and as required by law.
