Before you start

Who can use this feature

Team owners and admins can manage billing on the Professional plan

The Professional plan includes a single upgraded Figma team.

Your overall subscription cost is based on the number of Full, Dev, and Collab seats in your plan. You have access to these seats for the duration of your billing term.

To check the current price per seat for the Professional plan, visit figma.com/pricing.

How billing works on the Professional plan

When you sign up for a Professional plan, you purchase a number of seats for the duration of your billing term.

You can make adjustments to the number of seats on your plan at your renewal, or make seat changes throughout your billing term.

You can purchase any number of Full, Dev, or Collab seats. View seats are free and do not need to be purchased.

Adjust number of seats at renewal

Thirty days before your annual plan is set to renew, you’ll see a banner at the top of your Figma admin. Click Review seats to open a modal to adjust the number of seats on your plan for your next renewal.

Thirty days before your annual renewal, you'll see a banner across the top of your admin with a Review seats button

Tip: If you’ve already clicked the banner, you can still access the modal from your Admin >  Billing page. The modal will be available from 30 days prior to the renewal up until the date of renewal.

From the modal, add or remove the number of seats by seat type to renew on your annual subscription.

From the renewal modal, you can adjust how many annual seats you want to renew..png

If you have seats that are currently being billing on a monthly subscription, adding additional annual seats will convert those monthly seats into annual seats once the renewal is finalized.

Example

Your team, Twigma Inc., signed up for a Professional annual subscription on March 15, 2025 with 10 Full seats.

You added 5 additional Full seats in July 2025, and have been paying for those additional seats on a monthly cadence.

In February 2026, you receive a reminder that your annual subscription is almost set to renew. You select to renew a total of 13 Full seats annually. This leaves only 2 remaining Full seats that will continue to be billed monthly.

If you renew fewer annual seats than seats you currently have on your plan, those remaining seats will be billed on a monthly subscription.

Example

Your team, Twigma Inc., signed up for a Professional annual subscription on March 15, 2025 with 10 Full seats.

In February 2026, you receive a reminder that your annual subscription is almost set to renew. You select to renew a total of only 8 Full seats annually.

After renewal, the remaining 2 Full seats on your team are billed to you on a monthly cadence. To remove those seats from your monthly bill, you change their seat from a Full seat to a free View seat.

There is no renewal period for monthly subscriptions—you can make changes to seats on a monthly subscription at any time. Unassigned seats will not be renewed for the next month.

Add new seats during billing term

You can add paid seats at any time during your subscription. There are a few ways to do this:

  1. From the file browser, click  Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. Select the People tab.
  3. Click a person’s current seat from the Seat type column.
  4. In the popup modal, select and confirm the new seat type.

If the requested seat is not available, Figma adds a new seat to your plan.

If you’re on an annual plan, you can purchase additional paid annual seats.

Team members can request seats or seat upgrades.

  • Set approval settings for new seats: Admins choose if new seat requests are automatically approved or require manual approval
  • Approve or decline seat requests: Admins approve or decline seat requests that require manual approval

When you approve or add new seats, they will be added to your next invoice.

Figma introduced updates to its billing model on March 11, 2025.

  • If your plan has not yet renewed since March 11, 2025: New seats will be billed starting at your next monthly invoice.
  • If your plan has renewed since March 11, 2025: New seats are added to your next invoice, prorated from the day of approval through the end of your subscription period. If a user occupies a paid seat when you approve a seat upgrade request for them, a prorated credit for the unused time in the previous seat is applied to your purchase of the new seat.

Example: Monthly subscription

Jenny requests a Dev seat 3 days before the next monthly invoice and an admin approves it.

In this scenario, the invoice will include:

  • A charge for $15, which is the next month’s usage for Jenny’s seat.
  • A charge for $1.50, which is the prorated cost of 3 days worth of Dev seat usage on the Professional plan on monthly billing. This charge is added because an admin approved Jenny’s seat.
  • Charges for next month’s usage for any other seats on the team.
Example: Annual subscription

Acme Inc. has an annual subscription with 10 Full seats. These annual seats use annual pricing on Figma’s updated billing model.

Jenny joins Acme Inc. on April 27 and an admin approves a Full seat for her. All existing annual seats are already in use, so Acme needs to purchase a monthly seat.

In this scenario, Acme will get an invoice on May 1. The invoice will include:

  • A charge for $1.50, which is the prorated cost of 3 days worth of Full seat usage on the Professional plan on monthly billing. This charge is added because an admin approved Jenny’s seat.
  • A charge for $15, which is the next month’s usage for Jenny’s seat.

Acme will continue to get monthly invoices for Jenny’s Full seat unless an admin proactively adds the monthly seat to their annual subscription.

Remove or change seats during billing term

You can move people to a free View seat at any time during your billing cycle.

  1. From the file browser, click  Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. Select the People tab.
  3. Click a person’s current seat from the Seat type column.
  4. In the popup modal, select the free View seat and confirm the changes.

Note: We won’t issue a prorated refund when you move a user to a free View seat. However, someone else can use the paid seat for the remainder of the billing period. If you no longer need the seat, make that adjustment at your next plan renewal.

If an admin wants to move a user to a different lower cost seat, we first check to see whether that lower cost seat is available in your plan. A seat is available if it is not assigned to a user.

  • If the seat is available: The seat is assigned to the user, and their previous seat is made available for someone else to use. This results in no additional seats or costs.
  • If the seat is not available: You need to purchase the desired seat for this user, and their existing seat will be made available for someone else to use.

Monthly vs. annual subscriptions

On the Professional plan, you can choose from a monthly or annual subscription.

  • On the monthly plan, you purchase a number of seats for the month. You’ll be invoiced each month.
    • Add seats at any time. New seats will be added to your next invoice.
    • Any seats that are unassigned throughout the month will not renew the following month.
  • On the annual plan, you purchase a number of seats for the year.
    • You’ll be invoiced annually for your plan subscription. When your annual plan renews, you can make adjustments to the number of seats on your plan.
    • When you add extra paid seats throughout your annual subscription term, we’ll charge you a separate monthly subscription for just those seats. This helps you manage the cost of Figma if you have a portion of users who only need to pay for Figma for a short time.
You'll have both an annual subscription, and a monthly subscription for any extra paid seats. You will continue to get monthly invoices for newly added seats unless you proactively add those seats to your annual subscription or remove the seats.

Identify monthly vs. annual seats

On the Professional annual plan, you might have both monthly and annual seats.

To see whether an individual is assigned a monthly or annual seat:

  1. From the file browser, click  Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. Select the People tab.
  3. Click a user’s name to open a user management panel.

Next to the user’s Seat type, there is a badge to indicate if the seat is Billed annually or Billed monthly.

Add additional seats on an annual subscription

To simplify your account admin or expand your team as it evolves, you can add more seats to your annual subscription at any time.

When you add annual seats, Figma will charge you a prorated fee for each seat at your next monthly invoice. This covers that seat for the remainder of the annual billing period.

If you’re on the annual plan and have seats that are currently being billed on a monthly cadence, adding additional seats converts those monthly seats into annual seats.

  1. From the file browser, click Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. From the Total seats table, click Add seats.

Click the Add seats button from your admin dashboard to purchase additional annual seats..png

Tip: You can also add annual seats from Admin > Settings > Plan.

Example

Your team, Twigma Inc., signed up for a Professional annual subscription on March 15, 2025 with 10 Full seats.

You added 5 additional Full seats in July 2025, and have been paying for those additional seats on a monthly cadence.

In October 2025, you decide to add 7 annual Full seats to your plan.

This converts your 5 monthly seats into annual seats, as well as adds 2 available Full seats that you can assign as new users join your team.

Switch from monthly to annual billing

If you're currently on a monthly plan, Figma will bill you for your plan every month based on the number of paid seats in your Professional team.

You can also switch to an annual subscription. This allows you to pay for an entire year of Figma upfront.

Note: When you switch to an annual subscription, Figma will charge you for your annual subscription on your next monthly billing date.

  1. From the file browser, click Admin in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. In the Plan section, select Add an annual plan.
  4. Use the  plus and minus buttons to adjust the number of of seats you want to add. You can add seats for each seat type separately.
  5. Click the Accept terms and upgrade button to complete the process.
