Who can use this feature

Available on any plan

Slide deck templates provide curated colors, fonts, and slide layouts to help you build presentations faster while maintaining a consistent look and feel. Browse through available slide layouts to find one that fits your needs, such as a title or an image, then replace the placeholder elements with your own content. Unlike many presentation tools, you’re not limited to one template per deck. You can mix and match slide layouts from different templates to customize your deck exactly how you want.

When you add a slide layout from a template to your deck, the template’s color and font styles also become available for you to use. Apply these styles to any slide in your deck to keep your presentation looking cohesive.

Add a template to your deck

There are a couple of ways to create a slide deck using templates.

From Templates and tools:

  1. From the file browser, click Templates and tools in the left sidebar.
  2. Select a template from Community or your internal team’s tab. Slide deck templates are categorized under Presentations.
  3. Click Use template. If prompted, select the account where you want to open the template.
  4. A new slide deck opens in your drafts. Use the template picker to choose a specific slide layout or click Add all slides. Learn more about using slide deck templates.

From the template picker:

Use the template picker to browse for and add templates to your deck.

  1. Click New slide in the left sidebar.
  2. Browse through templates by category or use the search field to narrow down the choices.
  3. Click on a template to view the available slide layouts.
  4. Click on a slide layout to add it to a new slide in your deck or click Add all slides to add every slide layout in the template. You can add as many slide layouts from different templates as you want.

Use template styles

When you add a template to your deck, you can apply the template's color and text styles to any object or slide using the Template style section in the right sidebar.

Apply a template color style

You can apply a template’s color styles to any object with a fill, such as shapes or text layers. You can also apply template colors to the background of a slide.

  1. Select the object you want to update.
  2. Open the dropdown menu in the Fill section of the right sidebar.
  3. Under Template colors, select a color to use as the object’s fill.

Apply a template text style

You can apply template text styles to any text layer on a slide.

  1. Select the text layer you want to update.
  2. Open the dropdown menu in the Text section of the right sidebar.
  3. Under Text styles, choose the style you want to apply.

Change the template style on an entire slide

If you add slide layouts from multiple templates to your deck, you can change the template style on an existing slide by selecting a different template from the dropdown menu. This changes the text styles and color fills on the current slide.

  1. Select the slide you want to update.
  2. Open the Template style dropdown in the right sidebar and choose the template you want to use.

Objects using the previous template’s font and color styles are updated to use the newly selected template’s styles.

Remix template colors

You can shuffle through a template’s color styles to see how different color combinations look on the current slide.

  1. Select the slide you want to update.
  2. Click Remix template colors next to the template name.

Note: In order to remix template colors, the currently selected slide must have at least one object that uses a template color as its fill.

Manage template styles

Add template colors and font styles

You can add new color or text styles to existing template styles.

To add a new color or text style:

  1. Open the Template style dropdown in the right sidebar.
  2. Click Edit template style next to the template you want to update.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To add a text style: Click the plus next to Text styles and use the Edit text style modal to configure the style's properties
    • To add a color style: Click the plus next to Colors and use the color picker to select a new color

Update template color and text styles

You can edit existing template color and text styles. When you update a style, the change is automatically applied to every object currently using the style.

To edit a template’s color or text styles:

  1. Open the Template style dropdown in the right sidebar.
  2. Click Edit template style next to the template you want to update.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • To update a text style: Select the text style and use the Edit text style modal to modify its name or properties.
    • To update a color style: Hover over the color style and click Edit. Use the color picker to select a new color or choose an option from a connected library.

Rename a template style

If you use multiple templates in a deck, it may be helpful to rename template styles to keep things organized in your deck.

Note: Renaming a template style will only impact your current deck. It will not rename the original template and the new name will not persist if you use the same template in another deck.

To rename a template style:

  1. Open the Template style dropdown in the right sidebar.
  2. Click Edit template style next to the template you want to update.
  3. Click More options.
  4. Enter a new name in the Name field and press Enter.

Delete a template style

If you no longer want to use a template in your deck, you can remove it from the Template styles dropdown menu.

To delete a template style:

  1. Open the Template style dropdown in the right sidebar.
  2. Click Edit template style next to the template you want to update.
  3. Click More options.
  4. Click Remove style from deck.

Note: Template styles can only be removed if they aren’t being used on an existing slide.
