Stickies are the virtual equivalent to the sticky notes we all know and love. They're the core for any FigJam board, along with shapes and connectors.

Use stickies for:

  • Brainstorms and pitch sessions
  • Retrospectives
  • Kanban style to-do lists or project management
  • Card sorting exercise
  • Anything you put your mind to that involves text in a colorful sticky note!
Note

Stickies can only contain text.

Create a sticky note

You can create sticky notes from the toolbar or from existing stickies.

From the toolbar and shortcuts

Stickies being added to board using the toolbar and quick create shortcuts

  1. Click the stack of stickies in the toolbar.
  2. Hover the sticky preview over the board to pick a spot.
  3. Click again to drop the sticky.

You can also drag and drop a sticky from the toolbar onto the board.

Once your sticky is on the board, you can immediately start typing to add text.

Note

The color of your stickies is randomly selected when you open a jam file, and can be changed using the settings bar when you select a sticky from the board. Changing a sticky's color on the board will change the color of your stack in the toolbar for new stickies.

Keyboard shortcut

Use the keyboard shortcut:

  1. Press S.
  2. Hover the sticky preview over the board to pick a spot.
  3. Click to drop the sticky.

Quick actions bar

  1. Open the quick actions bar using:

    Mac: ⌘ Command /

    Windows: Control /

  2. Type sticky, then hit Return or Enter.

  3. Hover the sticky preview over the board to pick a spot.

  4. Click again to drop the sticky.

  • Select an existing sticky, then use the keyboard shortcut:

    Mac: ⌘ Command D

In either case, the original sticky is duplicated along with any text inside it.

When you duplicate a sticky that's grown in size due to its text, then edit the text, the sticky's size will change along with the text.

Add connectors

Add connectors between stickies to diagram flows or create paths for others to follow.

  2. Select between an elbow or straight connector. You can also use the keyboard shortcuts ⇧ Shift C to create an elbow connector, and L for a straight connector.
  3. Click and drag your cursor between the objects you want to connect.

Once created, you can click and drag a connector's start or end point to another object, or another side of the same object.

Add your name to a sticky

Your stickies automatically include your name at the bottom. This is great for group collaboration where other team members are adding their own stickies to the board. By default, the name on your stickies is taken from your account settings.

To add or remove your name to a sticky:

  1. Add a sticky to the board.
  2. Click in the toolbar.

To remove your name, click again.

Note

If you clear the text in another person's sticky note, your name is added to the sticky.

Edit stickies

You can edit a sticky's color, text, and the text's formatting. Edits can also be made in bulk to a group of selected stickies. It's not possible to rotate a sticky note, only shapes with text.

To edit a sticky:

  1. Select one or more stickies by:
    • Clicking on a single sticky
    • Clicking and dragging your cursor over multiple stickies
    • Or, clicking on multiple stickies while pressing Shift
  2. Edit the text fields or use the toolbar to edit color and text formatting.

Size

Stickies come in two shapes: a square and rectangle, like an index card-sized sticky. They change in size vertically depending on its text contents and can be made wider by dragging a side edge. You can also drag a corner to scale their size equally. Shapes with text can be scaled to a different size regardless of its content.
