Who can use this feature

Applies to teams on the Education plan.

On the Education plan, you can share assets at three different levels: team, projects, and files. Read our Guide to sharing and permissions for more information on how sharing works in Figma.

Share the team, projects, or files on the Education plan

Teams

All teams support the same permissions: can view, can edit, admin, and a team owner. Explore team permissions →

On the Education plan, a person’s team permissions determine their access to the team. This controls what actions they can take within the team— like the ability to create and move files— as well as their permissions on design and FigJam files.

Note: In teams on the Education plan, admins (and owners) will automatically get edit access to the team. It's not possible to give admins view only access to the team.

Projects

Every project has a team access setting. This controls the default access team members can have on that project. The default team access for all projects is can edit.

On the Education plan, the project owner can update the project's team access setting.

  • Can view: Team members can only view files in this project, even if they have can edit permissions on the team.
  • Can access (default): Team members can access the project based on their team-level permissions. For example, if a user has can view team permissions, and the team access level for the project is set to can access, then the user has can view access on the project.
  • Remove team access: Remove a team’s access to a project. If you remove a team’s access to a project, team members can only access the project if they have already been directly invited or if project owner invites them afterward. You can re-add team access to the project at any time.

Team files

A team member's access to files in the team is based on their team permissions.

It's possible to invite external collaborators to individual files. This will give them access to just that file and not the rest of the team's files. You can give them can view or can edit access.

Files in a team also have link sharing permissions. This controls the default access for anyone outside the team who accesses the file from a link. On the Starter plan, you have the following link sharing settings:

Can view

Anyone: Anyone inside or outside your team can access the file if they have the link.

Note: If you set file access to Anyone, use the Advanced options in the Share modal to add password protection to the file. Learn more about sharing files and adding password protection to files.
